National Development

The advent of the knowledge economy has dramatically changed
the foundations of of wealth creation and national development,
and knowledge and other human based intangibles have become
the main sources of wealth, economic growth and national
development.
Since Adam Smith in his famous book “An inquiry into the nature
and causes of the wealth of nations”, much research has been
done on this fundamental issue of national development. This
pioneering research was in fact the result of a multidisciplinary
and multidimensional approach. Do not forget that Adam Smith
was a person of vast culture, one of the pioneers of the
Enlightenment and the writer of other very different books such
as “The Theory of Moral Sentiments”, which is still considered
today as a guide to human nature and happiness.
Today there is no established body of wealth creation theory in
the knowledge economy context at the macro level. Nevertheless
the existing body of theory has been enriched by recent important
contributions coming from Human Capital Development,
Cognitive Science, Economic History, Political Science, Cultural
and Social Economics, New Institutional Economics, New
Theory of Economic Endogenous Growth, Knowledge Based
Development, Innovation Ecosystem and many others. This is an
unfinished work and an ideal track for TAKE as it is a truly
multidisciplinary and multidimensional undertaking.
This conference will be a great opportunity for scholars in these
various fields to interact and build synergies for knowledge based
development of specific cities, regions and nations.
